Beyoncé has signed a new global agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, covering the iconic artist and businesswoman’s entire song catalog, stretching back to seminal hits from her start with Destiny’s Child.
The deal unites her with Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Jon Platt, who worked with the superstar as head of her previous publisher Warner Chappell. Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, hailed Platt “the Obama of the music industry” when the exec was honored at the annual City of Hope Spirit of Life gala in 2018, where Beyoncé performed.
“I am excited for what’s to come with my continued partnership with Jon Platt in his new leadership role at Sony/ATV,” Beyoncé said. “Jon’s the executive who understands the creative mindset and continues to be both an advocate and protector. It has been an honor working with Jon from the start of my career.”
Added Platt: “Beyond all of her well-deserved accolades and accomplishments, Beyoncé is simply one of the most driven and impactful talents I know. I’ve had the privilege of making incredible music with her throughout her career and she continues to set the bar for creative expression in all forms. Beyoncé inspires generations with her songs and I am honored to reunite with her at Sony/ATV.”
Rihanna also signed with Sony/ATV last fall, after Platt moved to the publisher from Warner/Chappell. Sony/ATV has the largest music publishing catalog in the world, including the work of artists like Taylor Swift, Pharrell Williams, Frank Sinatra and Marvin Gaye.
